ART TREASURES OF ST. PETERSBURG - by Adrian Sumner
Monday 15th December
Hartford Village Hall,
Chester Road, Hartford, Northwich
8.00pm - £4.00 (£3.00 concessions)
The Greatest of Peter the Greats Windows on the West, St Petersburg remains an Imperial fantasy to this very day. Concentrating mainly on the fabulous collections of the Hermitage (youd hardly notice that the six tons of jewellery, precious metalwork and fine art liquidated by Stalin in the 1930s to obtain Western currency is gone), we examine the gems of the seemingly endless Old Master galleries, the quite startling quantity of Modern Masters (including crucial Impressionist and post-Impressionist works), as well as jewellery, applied arts, textiles, Imperial and Russian art, and, of course, examples of the work of Carl Faberge. We also visit the many other fascinating sites and buildings in this most dramatic of cities, including the world-famous gilded sculptures. Slide lecture by Adrian Sumner.
